Rock fishing

These lazy days of Indian summer, the transition from true summer to nippy fall, are the perfect time for squeezing in every last fishing trip possible.

Philo and I set out with an uncle and two cousins to make the most of the fact everyone was home for the weekend.

Oh, yeah, and the Whee, of course.

This weekend's trip had a theme: rocks. The river was way down, so the kayaks and canoe drug bottom over a lot of rocks.  This was more of a "take your canoe for a hike" trip.

There were a few fish caught, none of them huge, and only one was a little odd.  It was a rockfish that Cousin Jed snagged.

Caught the rock right through a tiny hole in it. He kind of has a knack for that sort of thing. His first catch of the day was a catfish he snagged as well. 'Don't even waste the bait' is his motto.

The Whee had a great time playing in the mud and the water, but then her trip became a little rocky. Clambering over some of the piles of rip rap that have been dumped along the river to prevent erosion, she slipped and fell, and the result was a trip to the ER for seven stitches in her hip.

I promised not to post pictures of those.  She said getting the stitches wasn't as bad as putting up with the jokes- "good thing your head is hard as a rock,"  and "did you want Rocky Road ice cream for dessert?"

Don't worry baby, Mama's love for you is rock solid and I won't let them be mean to you.  Oops.  Sorry, Whee. I can't help it, Sweetie, you keep me in stitches.

MAMA!  STOP IT!

I have to go deliver a BigMac to the invalid now...

Happy Trails!
